Is a Smartphone a Good TV Remote Replacement?

Right now I still use the original remote that came with the TV, but it constantly disappears between the couch cushions. Sometimes I grab my phone anyway to control other things in the house, so it made me wonder if switching completely to a smartphone remote would actually make life easier. Do people really use their phone as the primary remote, or is it more of a backup option?

For me it started as a backup, but now I use my phone almost all the time. I installed a remote app on my iPhone mainly because my original remote had dying buttons. Once I connected the phone and TV to the same Wi-Fi network, the setup was pretty quick and the app detected the TV automatically. After that it basically worked like a regular remote — volume, menu navigation, opening streaming apps, switching inputs. If you want to try it yourself, you can Download today and see if it connects to your TV. The biggest advantage is that your phone is usually already in your hand.
