WDBF DODGEBALL WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS 2018 RECAP
The 2018 WDBF Dodgeball World Championships has now concluded in what was one of the greatest spectacles of athletic talent our sport has seen to date.
Our Australian Team made the most of their international experience, discovering all the sights and attractions of Hollywood, Los Angeles. Our players got their tourist on, from the Hollywood Sign to Universal Studios and finally to the courts of LA Hangar Studios for the WDBF Dodgeball World Championships.
The tournament ran from the 10th - 13th October and featured 9 countries from across the globe all competing for the elusive gold medal. After all preliminary rounds our Men's team ranked 3rd and our Women's team ranked 4th on the ladder heading into elimination rounds. Our women defeated Hong Kong in quarter finals but lost out to the silver medalists Malaysia in their semi final. Our men defeated New Zealand in their quarter final, and in similar fashion only just missed out against gold medalists Malaysia also.
Both our Men's & Women's teams progressed to a 3rd place bronze medal play off. After trailing 5-0 at half time to Canada, the Australian Women performed out of their skin to pull off the best comeback of the tournament winning 8 straight sets in the second half to close out the match and take the bronze!
Our Men's Team also faced up against Canada in their 3rd place play off, narrowly missing out in a close one point difference finish in sudden death.
Many thanks to our team sponsors 2XU Australia, Jetts Fitness & Gorilla for assisting our team on their journey. We also extend our thanks to Jake Mason & the USA Dodgeball Team for putting on an incredible tournament to display our beloved sport.
In exciting developments the WDBF have announced that the 2019 Dodgeball World Championships will be held in Cancun Mexico, hosted by Federación Mexicana de Dodgeball!
Stay tuned as the Australian Dodgeball Federation will be announcing plans & events for 2019 Australian Team Selections.
